Looking for Great toys for under P200? Or even P100?
Found this one hidden, actually not so hidden, of all places, in Greenhills Tiangge.
Yes, I know there are a lot of gifts under P100 or P200 out there, but I’m a bit picky when it comes to the quality of the items I buy. It doesn’t matter if my budget is super low, but I always have a knack of finding gifts that are worth more than that.
One of my greatest finds, rather my greatest found-agains, is from the maker of the wooden toy jeep I gave my son 2 Christmases ago. The maker was Tahanang Walang Hagdanan (TWH), and as the name connotes, it’s a cooperative for our disabled brothers. It was started by a Belgian nun, Sr. Ma. Paula Valeriana Baerts, ICM, whose mission way back in 1965 paved the way to bring (more and more) differently-abled men and women meaningful and productive lives today.
They have puzzles, activity/educational toys as well. But what caught my eye were the toy planes, helicopters, owner jeeps.I don’t remember seeing those before, so of course I had to get them for my son. Not only are these good reproductions, meaning the proportions are pleasant, these are also made of natural materials. And, more importantly they are really built to last, my son’s jeep is still in one piece, well except for the “spare tire” that fell off, but it’s still alive and running. The best part is, these are below P200! And some are even below P100! Of course, that got me really excited.
I am actually not a fan of their more colourful toys finding the shades a bit too strong for my taste. So I asked them if I can order it unfinished. Unfortunately, the lady tending the booth was not really open to it. Well, not really the type to give up easily, a.k.a “makulit”, I found out there is actually a sister organization that’s an offshoot of TWH.And, that lady was fortunately very accommodating. Being makulit again, I even made her agree to sell me one of the toys separately from a set.
She was even very obliging to grant my request for the toys to be unfinished. They are even open to custom-making toys for me, hmmmm…. the possibilities are even more exciting.
I really feel so happy to have found(-again) these toys and the best part is, in my own small way, I get to help someone to have a happier Christmas as well, and it’s not just my son.
Let’s support each other and help them by buying their products.
