I found this out the hard way.
It happened on my first year in the business. Of course, I didn’t know what to expect, the days prior to and on Mother’s Day were HECTIC and so I thought my mother would understand if I wasn’t able to give her flowers. I was too bone-tired to do another arrangement and we just happen to have sold every single stem we had. And… of course she didn’t so we had to give her sampaguitas, they were the only one’s left! (we were near a church that time).
But conventionally, carnations rule as the most commonly associated flower for Mothers. But today, conventions are no longer the rule.
You could just as easily bring a smile to your mom with any of her favorite flowers. But, as usual roses are still on top of the favorites. With mixed arrangements of lilies, carnations and gerberas coming in just as close.
What colors? Well… pink will always be a sure fire way to please any lady. But if you really want to show her how much she means to you, surprise her with her favorite color. You will surely touch her heart when she realizes that you cared enough to get her exactly what she likes!
As for arrangements, bouquets are still a favorite among mothers. It gives them that certain nostalgia as to when they were still receiving these tokens of affections when they were younger. Now, it takes on a deeper meaning and gives them a more intense appreciation because it’s from loved ones, especially if these were given by their children. Don’t be surprised if you bring a tear or two from your beloved mum when you surprise her.
But just like for the flowers and color, choose something that she likes or feels more comfortable with. If she is the type who is too intimidated with arranging the flowers in a vase, best to give her an arranged one either in a vase or in a basket. If she is an environmentally-aware, best to give her a vase arrangement that way, she won’t have non-biodegradable floral foam to worry about.
In whatever shape or form, giving your mother flowers on Mother’s Day will show her deeply how much you care for her… but it’s best to steer clear from sampaguitas… take it from someone who knows…
