My own Green Wedding
Before going green was a lifestyle, almost 9 years ago, I didn’t realize I already had an affinity for it. Of course, not being mindful of it at that time, it was not as focused but I am glad to remember that we did actually (unintentionally) practice some of the ideas in having a Real Green Wedding.
Back then the option were not as diverse and as readily available as it is today. So by sheer desire to personalize our wedding, we not only went natural but we inadvertently made it into a D-I-Y fest as well.
Having a Real Green Wedding, doesn’t mean you’ll have to go green with your color motif. But we did just happen to make it ours, (years later, I can not help but wonder at that serendipitous decision)
Here are some of the ways we did it.
The direction to go on the natural was because of the venue. We knew we wanted a garden wedding, but all the gardens we went to around Manila didn’t seem to fit, it was just too formal for our taste.
Just as when we were at the brink of desperation, I remembered a place I used to pass when we were bringing my sister to her friends. I distinctly remember thinking how absolutely “quaint” it would be to get married there. The place was Pook Ligaya, it’s a huge open field (a horse-riding field actually) with a large tree, just the most romantic setting for a garden wedding.
So, that definitely set the theme for the wedding. We personally made our invitations from handmade paper by Paper and Arts from Batanggas. (They have since become my bazaar buddies and I always go back to them for their paper products for whatever project I come up with.) We used a real Davalla fernleaf as the background for our invitation and set the right mood for a no-frills but just as romantic garden wedding.

Can you believe, that leaf is almost 9 years old?!? It's actually my favorite leaf all-around, but very temperemental.
It was a single sheet invite, we felt having printing the sponsors name was not really necessary. We not only saved on man hours, but on paper and ink as well.
Then for our reception, it was dining al freso, we just rented out tents, used Christmas lights and candles in recylced bottles all around the area.
It would be great if you can truly make your wedding eco-friendly, but like with all things green, every little bit helps. Your conscious effort to reduce waste would make your wedding more meaningful.
Make the quaint things count,
Theresa
P.S. It’s kind of sad that the sprawling grounds have been rented out to a restaurant and The Big Tent but at least I still have pictures of what it was before.

wow, ed! that was a great idea! especially since narra, aside from being our national tree, it is one of our most prized and protected tree, very Pinoy Eco talaga! I’m actually doing a post on trees for wedding giveaways soon, maybe you’ll share your insights on that : )
