Beyond coping, rebuilding and living again, the one Lesson we need to learn from Ondoy and Pepeng
Today, somebody shared about Blog Action Day 2009. If it was not the most timely thing, I don’t know what is. The topic was CLIMATE CHANGE.
We have all heard about Katrina, was so concerned when some of my family had to drive some 20 hours to get to safer place. But really, it was a world away, and somehow, it still wasn’t real. It was just a hurricane, devastating yes, but still a hurricane, a natural occurence that any ordinary person can not do anything about. You just cope, rebuild and live again.
Then the unthinkable happened. The hurricane hit home!
We were lucky, most were not. Unknowingly, some severely affected were just a few meters away from us!
Bottom line is, what to do next. Relief operations are necessary and of utmost importance. Even as of this very moment, even weeks after Ondoy and Pepeng, facebook and twitter are still flooded with cries for help for people who are still very much affected. We all need to help, small or big, everyone’s help is greatly needed. But more than that, we all need to think more, and more than just for the immediate future. More than just to cope, to rebuild and to live again.
Yes, its one small thing to blog about it, but to do so, hopefully brings it to the consciousness of more. Bring it to a level where everyone has nothing else to do but to contribute to the solution.
For some it can be very overwhelming to take in just how everything is interconnected. How all our actions have its own footprint on the Earth and ultimately in our children’s future.
So I’m sharing how I made the conscious start of living a greener life with my family. Like most moms, everything we do is because and for the love of our child, for me the video on the Story of Stuff made things clearer. You too may want to start there. (Just click the link below to take you to the site where you can watch the video)
The beautiful movie, Home, is something we all must watch at least once. Thank you, manilarat for sharing that. : )
Maybe saving the earth and our children’s future starts from reading a blog, watching a movie, or just seeing a picture. It just needs to start somewhere.
Has it started in you? Can you still remember when and how?
Be happy. Be Healthy. Be Whole.
Make the Quaint things count,
Theresa
