The Collective: Greening of the other side of Makati
For some, the green movement in Makati started in the Legaspi and Salcedo weekend markets that began more than a decade ago. I don’t know about you, but I find having to wait for the weekend, can mean mostly that I’ll miss it, with all the other activities I find I sandwich during those days.
Finally, finding our dose of organic and eco-friendly produce can now be done all throughout the week.
At The Collective there is a shop with the inspired idea of making such produce available much more conveniently, I expect it would do much for this lifestyle. With it, the Eco movement in Makati will even be more alive. It is shaping up to be a true alternative.

Before all the crowds come in, seeing the place before it begins gives us a fresher look of what to expect in The Collective.
One of the very interesting shops here for greenies will be Ritual. A few weeks ago, the place is still in the process of construction, but you can already get a sense of what it will be about.
With the help of Anton of OAP, a group of us had the fortune of hearing about the concept from Rob, the owner of Ritual.
Ritual as the name implies aims to bring back the ritual of “tingi” (retail) in our shopping habits. By doing so, we only buy what we can consume, therefore managing consumerism and waste. And, It being “tingi” we have to bring our own containers or use their recycled containers (at a minimal fee), in the process we really minimize our wastes from packaging materials.
Just look into your trash and you’d realize just how much waste we produce from sachets, bottles and plastic packaging!
Another way that the Collective will popularize the Eco lifestyle in Makati is to bring the cool and practicality of riding bikes with New Old Bikes.
They bring life to old bikes so people can get into the habit of riding them and actually reduce pollution in the highly polluted MBD (Makati Business District). Just imagine if we can actually do that for the whole Metro!
Having just seen a preview of the Collective, it is definitely an idea whose time has finally come… again!!!
Are you game to make it your own Ritual?
