With a thriving economy still in question, Partido Kalikasan has even asked the possibility of a Low Carbon Economy, its feasibility and sustainability after a citizen’s consultation on how it is to take place.
I received an email invitation to the attend the final experts’ critiquing of the Citizen’s Consultancy on Low Carbon Economy for the Philippines It was conducted by the ECO Sustainability Institute and Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) in cooperation with local Partido Kalikasan organizations in Cagayan de Oro, Cebu and Benguet in behalf of Aksyon Klima.
It looked very interesting considering the topic and the huge task that it seems to be proposing. Then upon seeing the following personalities as the panel presenters for their own respective fields, it looks to be a very interesting indeed.
Ecological Perspective — Dr. Angelina Galang executive director of the Environmental Institute of the Miriam College
Economic Perspective — Dr. Sixto K Roxas of Maximo T. Kalaw Institute for Sustainable Development (MTKISD)
Cultural Perspective — Mr. Nicanor Perlas of Movement of Imaginals for Sustainable Societies through Initiatives, Organization and Networking (MISSION)
Tech Perspective — Ms. Neth Dano of ETC Group
I tried to get in touch with Mr. Roy Cabonegro, the Secretary of the Board for the Eco Sustainability Institute to ask more about the event, unfortunately I would have to wait for the results which will be available online.
But for those who can and are interested to attend, here are the details:
22 July 2011 (Friday) 8am to 12nn
Balay Kalinaw, University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman, Quezon City
Confirmations to 0999 7541637 or email roycabonegro@yahoo.com
Yes, having first read the title, I was taken aback by the audacity of even asking that question, but after some thought, maybe it is about asking huge questions that we will get huge solutions. After all, its becoming more often that I hear “the right answers come from asking the right questions”. What do you think?

But, what can one do for Mother Earth?
I am just one person, what can I possibly do?
And, Can anything still be done?
These are some of the questions that will probably be go through your heads when you hear “climate change” and “global warming”. All valid, all real and all unfounded at the same time.

With the image of Ondoy flashing before your eyes, how can you not? (Slide taken from Climate Change Presentation
This is not polyanna speak, though I do tend to go that way at times, but actually in everything that happens even in the face of natural catastrophes and other acts of God (so to speak), one can do something. You do have a choice, to sit quietly and wait for the “inevitable”, or worse, contribute to the “inevitable”, or do something to reverse it.
Its like death, of course it is inevitable, but it is how you live that counts, and so it is about the dreadful Climate change scenarios. Choose how to live in spite of it and you may actually do something about it.
This lady, has answered the question with a confident and triumphant yes and we can all learn to do the same.

Enjoying a vegetarian meal at Bliss Cafe (one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Baguio). Did you know that going vegetarian is one way of greatly supporting the reversal of climate change? Because commercial livestock raising has a massive effect on carbon dioxide emission and a corresponding increase in global temperature
She is Sheila Castillo-Tiangco and one of the only 10 Filipinos invited to train in the climate Project with ex-US Vice-President Al Gore.

Doing her part in education for Climate Change. Sheila is one of 10 Filipinos representating in the Climate Project Asia-Pacific Summit , Jan 8-10,2011, Jakarta, Indonesia with ex Vice President of the USA, Al Gore
For 2011, she has committed to share, educate and present about Climate change to at least 40 organizations. And, for four days, she has volunteered to do it in Baguio for FREE!

Why? Because every degree increase in temperature is equivalent to an exponential increase in temperature in the poles. Ondoy will pale in comparison.
So together with Mission Baguio, she will be introducing this mindset to the young, old, students and professionals.
And, believe it or not, alone and in just four days, she will be reaching at least 3,000 individuals!

Reaching 1,200 students just on the first day at the University of Baguio! Not bad for one person, huh! (photo courtesy of Jagat Rhubio)
Maybe it IS time, maybe we can all do something, maybe not with 3,000, maybe with just 300, 30 or 3, but we can all do something.
It is all about the choices we make today.

Impressive for the Vatican to use green energy, but even more impressive, work is underway for one of our own historically and spiritually relevant local churches to be powered by green energy sometime very soon! Watch out for updates here.
So, if you are in Baguio, do sit in for the series and ask your questions, invite more and help us all be educated on what we can do.

That sums up exactly what we need to do in life, and it’s not just about being green. And it’s exactly what I try to remind myself in very stressful situations.
On April 30, there are two worthwhile events you can go to if you are yearning for some earth-friendly activity for you and your family, especially with the kids.
It’s great that a lot of groups are really taking the initiative to do something to make for a better self, better earth, better country and better Filipinos.
The World Tai Chi and Qigong Day 2011 Philippines April 30
My mother-in-law used to attend the Tai-chi classes in UP with the mom in this poster, and my son used to be classmates with the little boy. Would be great to go this with my son, but will have to see if we can squeeze it in.
Though I never did get the chance to try it out, I find Tai Chi to be very interesting. I may be wrong but I see it as a practice of self-control, mastery and being in the now. If you ask me, all the pre-requisites in living the green life.
So if you would like to give it a try, this is a must, and best of all it’s FREE!

Hi guys!!! It has been a while again, but hopefully now I would be able to write more. A lot has happened and from the look of things, a lot is still in store for the next year.
Translation, SY 2011-2012, I am now counting my year based on the school year calendar. Why? I have since last year (SY2010-2011) took to teaching at a Waldorf School in Baguio : ) Yup, talk about another career change. So we’ll see how this path will unfold.
Meantime, I just have to share some great news! This time about our government. I know what you are probably thinking, like “some” jaded Filipinos about our government (I’m sorry to admit that I was also this way), “Is that even possible?”
Well, apparently I am so ecstatically happy that I was wrong!!!
